Obituary of George 'Rod' Rodney Ellison

George 'Rod' Rodney Ellison

 

Passed away September 28, 2025

 

He was born to Harold Ellison and Laurene (Stitson) Ellison on November 7th, 1946 in Beeton, Ontario.

 

He graduated from Banting Memorial High School in Alliston where he participated in sports, and won championships in hockey and baseball. He attended Waterloo Lutheran University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (English) in 1968. In 1969 he became an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy where he held many positions on ships enjoying the comradery of his shipmates, as well as land postings during his career.

 

After retiring in July 1995 after 26 years, he could devote his time to trying to master the game of golf. In 2004, he and Margery moved to Annapolis County to enjoy country life and he was proud to become involved at that time in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 122.

 

He is survived by his wife, Margery, sister-in-law Patricia, brother-in-law Ron Stephenson, his nieces Lisa Stephenson, Kirsti Stephenson, Ginger Ellison, Stephanie (Glen) Bartlett, and nephew Rory (Jessica) Ellison, and several great nieces and nephews.

 

He is predeceased by mother Laurene, father Harold, sister Carole Stephenson and brother Phillip.

 

Cremation has taken place and burial will be in the Sulis Smith Thomas Cemetery in Smiths Cove, Digby County, Nova Scotia, and per his request, there will be no service, but his wish is that old friends/buddies and family raise a glass in his memory.

 

Donations can be made to any Royal Canadian Legion, any animal shelter, or Hope for Wildlife.
