Obituary of Constance Lynn Saunders
Constance Lynn Saunders
February 5, 1955 – October 4, 2025.
The family of Connie Saunders is sad to share the passing of our oldest sibling on October 4, 2025 at 70 years of age.
Connie successfully fought breast cancer 31 years ago and with determination recovered from a hip fracture last year but has succumbed to cancer. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Saunders and Vivian (Healy) Saunders. She is survived by her siblings Darlene (Bill), Anna, Keith (Susan) and John (Lynn). She was an attentive aunt to Nikki (Johnny), Joe (Brittany), Karla (Rohit), Chantal (Chris), Tim (Nicky), Abby and Alanna and great aunt to Carter, Vivienne, Emily,Penelope and Isabelle.
Connie was graduated from Acadia University in 1977 with a B.Sc. (Honours, Biology) and from the University of Guelph in 1983 with a M.Sc. (Applied Biology). Her biology focussed work throughout her career started in research at the Kentville Research Station. She then worked for fourteen years as a Quality Control and Assurance Supervisor at Central Dairies in St. John’s, NL. In the year 2000 Connie moved back to Nova Scotia with employment at Farmers Dairy in their Cheese Division in Truro as a HACCP Coordinator, compiling and implementing food microbiology safety procedures on a facility-wide basis.
While living in St. John’s, Connie was an engaged volunteer with The Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women. Her attention to detail and love of libraries led her to making a significant contribution towards the updating and reorganization of the Council’s Resource Centre. Throughout her life Connie was an avid reader of history, politics and murder mysteries. She always had a crossword puzzle in progress. She enjoyed completing many needlepoint tapestries as well as travel to Ireland and Scotland.
Connie was a library of facts in many subjects of life as well as family history. She could be relied upon for lively discussions, heated conversations and interesting comments. Her sarcastic wit served her well and she gladly focussed it on anyone who would dare to cross her. She was content in her quiet life with rich friendships and family phone calls and visits.
The family wishes to thank the community of West Paradise for their thoughtful gestures throughout the years since Mom’s death and to the personal support workers of VON and staff at Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
Donations can be made to the West Paradise Community Hall, the West Paradise Evergreen Chapel and Cemetery Association or to any breast cancer research foundation of your choice.
As per Connie’s wishes there will be no funeral. However the family has arranged for a memorial gathering at the West Paradise Community Hall on Tuesday, October 7, at 2 pm. Interment will be private with family.
