Donald Gregory Buckler,76, of North Queens Nursing Home Caledonia passed away on September 25th 2025 at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater NS.
Greg was born in Middleton NS, to LaVaughn and the late Donald Buckler of Bear River NS.
Greg attended schools in Middleton, Digby and graduated from high school in Bridgewater. Greg started his broadcasting career as an on-air personality in Bridgewater starting with CKBW and continued with other radio stations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Montreal Quebec.
Greg’s life changed when he received a diagnosis of Schizoaffective disorder. This condition followed him for many decades and became his cause for action. It was during this time that he became a Mental Health Consumer Advocate with a goal of speaking to and on behalf of others affected by this or similar mental health conditions. Determined to develop public awareness for other mental health consumers, he started support groups in the Digby area, as well as CBC radio interviews and twenty-four half hour television programs on Eastlink community TV.
2023 was a turning point in his life when he was advised that his mental state had stabilized and showed no symptoms of active mental illness. He began his new lease on life by writing a novel entitled “Life Interrupted” which centered around periods of his mental health journey.
Greg is survived by his mother LaVaughn Buckler, Mountain Lea Lodge Bridgetown NS, daughter Sarah Buckler Dorcas Fredericton NB, sister Janice (Michael Renaud) Digby NS, brother Brian (Coreen) Digby NS, as well as other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
