Obituary of Erwin Schnetzer

Please share a memory of Erwin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with saddened hearts that the family of Erwin Schnetzer announces his sudden and untimely passing at the age of 81 years. Erwin passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident on March 17, 2020. He was born May 30, 1938 in Austria to Andreas and Kreszentia (Gau) Schnetzer. In 1989, Erwin, along with his love Maria and the two youngest sons, packed up their belongings and moved from Muntlix, Austria to start a new chapter in Nova Scotia. Although he assimilated well to the Canadian lifestyle he never forgot his roots and made sure to instill his Austrian culture into the young boys he brought along on this journey. Erwin was a hard worker, as anyone that knew him could attest, but was probably outshined by his wife Maria. Together, these two had the gumption and grit to leave a comfortable and settled life behind and start fresh in a new unfamiliar continent. They succeeded. One of the first ventures was a thriving restaurant in Mt. Hanley, the Austria Inn. Followed by numerous private residences scattered throughout the Annapolis Valley - all built with an Austrian flair. Another successful restaurant soon followed in Granville Ferry, the Austria Dorfgasthaus - which is still missed by many locals. A man of many skills, talents and stories - he will be deeply missed. Erwin is survived by children, Sabine (Günter) Frick, Andreas (Margot) Schnetzer, Barbara (Gerhard Bachmann) Schnetzer, Ambros (Lyudmila) Schnetzer, Philipp Schnetzer; grandchildren, Katharina, Julia, Theresa, Patrick, Marcel, Benjamin, Fabian, Jeremias, Alexia, Aron ; great-grandchildren, Pirmin, Ari, Mila; sister, Ella Schnetzer; sisters/brothers-in-law, Rosi, Elisabeth, Sieglinde, Josef, Andre. He was predeceased by brothers, Josef, Albert; sister, Anna Schnetzer. In light of the recent coronavirus pandemic any ceremony/celebration will be announced at a later date and will take place at his beloved home at Lake Jerry. Time and date will be updated on the funeral homes website, once known. Online condolences may be made at www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
