Joyce L. Burbridge Bridgetown, N.S.
It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of a truly remarkable and wonderful lady at the age of 93, on September 5, 2020.
Born Joyce Luella Everett, to parents Charles and Leta Everett of Bridgetown N.S.
Predeceased by husband Bruce, daughter Judy, and sister Patricia.
She leaves behind, daughter Wendy Anderson (Brian), Port Hawkesbury, son John MacAleese(Cindy), son Jaye MacAleese, both from Bridgetown, and nephew Chris Thomas (Helen), Halifax.
Following High School, her career path led her into the field of nursing, graduating in 1948 from the Payzant Memorial in Windsor N.S. and affiliating at Shriners in Montreal.
She went on to work at the Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton, as well as private nursing in Massachusetts and Bridgetown, and finally to Mountain Lea Lodge until her retirement.
Her personal life was filled with the love for all things Christmas, the best tree ever, and her renowned “don’t ask what’s in it” eggnog. Looking after stray cats for thirty plus years, feeding the birds, and participating in the Christmas Bird Count yearly. Her flower gardens were always lovely, bringing her much joy and contentment. Her love for all things flora and fauna unprecedented. A passionate reader, solver of the daily Crossword Puzzle, a lady always impeccably attired , she was most importantly a sturdy shoulder to lean on and without question, always the voice of reason.
Her family was her centre.
Her grandchildren, Carla, Travis(Lindsay), Nadia, Liam, Jodi( Nick), Jamie, Jonathan, and her great grandchildren were an innate source of pride, often marvelling at their accomplishments and uniqueness.
Lorraine, Geri, Debby and Anita. You were her girls. She loved you all.
Her love of life and of people leaves a legacy of laughter, creativity, generosity and sincerity for all who were privileged to know her.
Her teachings were simple. Do your best, be respectful and most importantly, love one another.
Her tasks are completed. She was simply, “The Best”
There will be no visitation due to covid. A private family service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA of your choice or Hope for Wildlife.
