Searching through the internet to seek out a Todd cartoon for an architect-urban sketcher, I sadly discovered his passing. I never met Jim yet I was moved by his unique wit and humour as expressed in his graphic-quality cartoons. There are some that have remained in my memory, illustrating his long-lasting impact on those he has left behind (especially his commentary on the overfishing off the coast of Newfoundland, for example). Each day I now think of him or his work, I will imagine he will have sent me a graphics postcard from heaven. Thanks for your wit and those times you made me smile, even though we never met face-to-face.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I did not know Jim, but in 2019 I inquired with him by email about the location of Boundary Rock. He was very gracious in his reply and expressed that he was please with my interest in the rock, the Toby and it's history. With his help, I made it there in the summer of '19. I just learned of his passing and I wanted to say to the family, friends and loved ones that he touched me, a complete stranger, with his kindness.

Hi Bob, Hi Mathew, I have been so sad that Jim is no longer with us. He was such an amazing and wonderful person. A bit of a curmudgeon, but hey. I met him through music and admired his ability to figure out the chords in the old fiddle tunes. In fact, I used to pull out some tunes that were a bit off, just to see if I could stump him. He usually managed to figure it out, and then we'd laugh.
It's a big loss to you. I hope you are managing. If there's anything I can do, please let me know. And don't let those lamb chops go to waste!

Soon after arriving at ARRA in 1967, Jim Todd became my best friend, given our common love of forests, canoes, chainsaws and music. Speaking recently, we reminisced about some wonderful end-of-the-school-year canoe trips. I suspect that most of us who knew Jim would agree that he was a good friend to many (and sometimes an irascible olde coot!) He was remarkably aware of what was going on across the country and around the world -- and fought passionately for high-speed internet so he could stay safe and comfortable in the woods of Perotte. Jim cared deeply about protecting all that was best about Nova Scotia -- starting with our forest, lakes and wild-life. He was generous with his time and his tools. My wife Susan and I will never forget his many kindnesses. His cartoons expressed his wit, and his maps guided us towards a better world. Thank you Jim.

Jim, David, Tom, Susan, Troy, and i formed the South Mountain Group to protest equitable Internet service for everyone in the new Annapolis County Hi Speed Internet Service rebuild. Jim was a fierce proponent and advocate believing that everyone should be provided equally with the same service no matter where they lived in the county. His passion for equality carried through from his advocacy of saving the Tobeatic. Jim was our leader with humour, grace, and an unwavering dedication of making sure it was done right for everyone. He was so fierce in his advocacy that he sometimes had to be held back, and reminded that on occasion some people were on our side and they are trying to help us get the job done. Our sincere condolences to Matt and the family. He will be missed. Wayne and Terry, Graywood

Dear Matthew, unfortunately our paths never crossed in person, but my mom Genie Bogart Turner played music with your dad over the years as far back as when they were both in their 20s. My dad Dave Turner also played with him often around holidays and special occasions. When visiting home in Nova Scotia, especially around Christmastime, I would often get to enjoy a jam session with your dad present at either my house, his house, or a mutual friend's house, and he would often fondly talk about how you were doing and what you were up to out West. Most recently I got to see him in Dec2019 right before Covid hit and he was mentioning how great it had been to have you there for a recent visit. These are some of my favourite memories of being back home, as my dad also passed from cancer and so I cherish the times I got to hear them all play music together. I'm sorry your dad is no longer with us. He helped vectorize the calligraphy my mom drew for my wedding, and I will miss getting to hear him play the next time I am home. I wish you and your family well during this incredibly difficult time. Here are some photos of them from early days and the last time I was home. Sincerely, Allison Turner

I am so sorry to hear of Jim`s passing, and will hold on to the great memories of past collaborations and canoe travels with Jim.
We shared a passion for the Tobeatic and Jim worked tirelessly to ensure its Wilderness designation.
Jim enjoyed that special place with friends, as it is the last true wilderness in Nova Scotia.
I am proud to have shared his passions, and the privilege to have known Jim for the true friend which he was.
He will certainly be missed, and I convey my condolences to all members of Jim`s family at this very difficult time.
