Obituary of Mary Camille "Cam" Johnstone

JOHNSTONE (Rice), Mary Camille “Cam”, age 98 of Deep Brook, Annapolis Co., born in Lequille, NS, 7 March 1923, died peacefully at home, 26 August 2021 with family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Hardy Stuart and Rosella (Gallagher) Rice. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Froude Johnstone (1997), sister Irene (Rice) Hudson, brother Eugene Rice, nephew Jim Hudson, adopted brother Ted Rice, son Bobby Johnstone and infant granddaughter Marie Leeanne Cook.
Left behind to remember are her sons, Richard (Nancy), Edmonton; Kenny (Joanne), Medicine Hat; Ronnie (Michelle), Bridgewater; daughters, Pam (Paul) Law, Deep Brook; Sandra (Robert) Cook, Sandy Bottom Lake; sister-in-law Nancy Rice, Perotte; daughter-in-law Barb Johnstone, Deep Brook; 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren & 2 great great grandsons and many friends.
In Annapolis she worked at the Dominion Store and Sears then in Cornwallis she worked at Toyland, Canex, Soda Bar, Rec Centre and as a Control Clerk for Canex. She had been a member of the St Patrick’s CWL in Cornwallis. Upon Joe’s retirement they spent 12 winters in Florida. After Joe’s death (1997) she learned how to play Bridge and then became an avid card player, holding games at the Clementsport Legion 2 days a week and had one or two tables of Bridge weekly in her home. For Deep Brook she was the Coordinator for the Cancer Society (approximately 11 years) and even at the age of 88 she was canvassing door to door. At the age of 86 she purchased her first computer (a laptop) learned how to do emails and work with MSN.
Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. No visitation by request. A private family funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Friday September 3, 2021 in St Louis Catholic Church, Annapolis Royal, with Father Raymond Odumuko officiating. Burial will follow in St Louis Church Cemetery, Annapolis Royal. Family flowers only. A public reception will be held in Clementsport Legion. Covid 19 restrictions will be followed. Donations in her memory may be made to the TLC Animal Shelter, PO Box 1601, Digby, NS B0V 1A0 or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank family and friends for the phone calls and visits to mom and often bringing her treats. The VON, we would like to thank them for their wonderful care.
