I wish to take this time for my good friend Wayne that I’ve known most of my life. My heart is heavy and I send my deepest sentiments for all of your loss; Heaven has gained a life taken much too soon. My wife Sandra was waiting for him with open arms and a big smile. She went with God on September 3, 2018 at 63 years young. It’s funny how a loss can change things and how life goes on.
Wayne had many great qualities, some of which was his “L’Ecole Supérieure de Clare” intellect. Very few people could compete, except for Alan! And of course, athletics were top notch. Wayne and I share many great memories throughout our years at CDHS and St. Anne’s U, and although our paths never crossed much during our lord mature, working life, he’ll always be a part of me.
Wayne has truly been an ambassador for our Acadian heritage; 40 years of service at Fort Anne and L’Habitation! Which of course came into play with his theatrical side as I discovered at St Anne’s U. I guess it can be said that Wayne was an all-around great person whose friendship is forever. Of course, my great Acadian friend accomplished a lot in his short life, but I just wanted to touch on some personal things which may not be known about Wayne, like his secret ambition was to figure out the caramel in the candy bar, or seeing his reflection in the mirror (from the CDHS yearbook). Being part of “L’Equipe de Rapportage”, “L’Equipe en Roulant my Boule”; Captain of the Tigers, a leader in basketball , accomplished in Cross Country among other clubs.
It is St Anne’s U where our friendship became stronger, especially as members of the “Julios” volleyball team. Great memories with Jean Duperrault as coach, lighting farts, road trips by bus, motel parties, drill practices, mooning people, and the likes solidified our commraderie. Wayne can as well, was very active in floor hockey, softball, soccer, badminton among other sports. And then there were the countless parties at Le Chateau or in dorm rooms, cranking Stairway to Heaven or dancing to Disco. Appearances in the play “Du Vent dans les Feuilles de Sassafras” as well as other performances, fun times at la Residence Beausejour all nighters, toga parties, girlfriends, Radio Campers club, Pique-Nique en Compagne (a play) and many other activities.
What I remember most about Wayne is his kindness to help others, his big beautiful smile, his easygoing nature , his perseverance and most of all, his friendship. Wayne, may you read by our Lord’s side and know many prayers and kind thoughts are sent your way.
Always a friend,
Pat.

During his forty years with Parks Canada at Port Royal Wayne became a legend for his ability to make the site come alive to visitors. His gentle and pleasant attitude and deep knowledge were impressive. He had the rare ability to gauge his presentations to suit individual visitors. We will never forget his presentation to members of the Canadian Archaeological Association in 1996, holding everyone captive with his incredible knowledge of Nova Scotia history, presented with his typical good humour. His passing is a great loss for us all.

To Wayne's entire family (with special thoughts for Allan),
I was greatly saddened to learn of Wayne's passing. On every visit to the Habitation I always looked up Wayne to guide us or for a chat. He put his heart and soul into his work and by so doing he made history and respect for the past come alive.
We also remember his time teaching at North Queens school.
We offer the fami;ly our condolences now and in the days ahead as we all remember Wayne.

Wayne ... I will miss your beaming smile, your witty sense of humour and the conversations we had about Oak Island, Coronation Street, or whatever topic came up during the drive to Annapolis Royal. There are so many words that come to mind when I think of you ... honest, trustworthy, intelligent, unassuming, caring, respectful and more. I feel very fortunate to have been able to call you friend. In a world that often seems dark these days, you were a beacon and your light will keep on shining beyond your earthly passing. A la prochaine, Ed

I worked closely with Wayne for the last several years at Parks Canada. During that time I got to know Wayne well. Wayne and I shared many of lunches together and talked in about everything from sports and politics to family and friends. He was one of the most honest and ethical people I have ever had the privilege of meeting. I'll miss him dearly.

It is hard to put in words what Wayne meant to me but I can honestly say that he taught me that loving what you do and sharing what you love are two of the most important ways one can live their lives. I have know Wayne for 30 years and I have seen him in action with visitors and, like his brother, he is amazing at what he chose to do with his life. He was and still is a great example to live by and I feel bless to have known him for so lmany years. Every time I talked with Wayne I always felt better, grounded in a way and the fact that he could share his family history and the place he grew up with visitors was a blessing for Parks Canada. He will be missed by many and it is a void, not only in the heart, but also in the community and at work that will be hard to replace. All the best my friend wherever your spirit now soars.

Glenn Baxter Wayne was my nephew thru his Mothers sister Lorette, we as a family visited often to Corberrie where the children played, I recall tossing the football with the boys, s time moved on we all lost contact till a few years back I met Wayne at the Habitat we enjoyed a very nice afternoon which I will always remember, I regret we did not reconnect. To have known Wayne even for a short time is very important to me. The good and young leave us too soon

I was saddened to read about Wayn's passing. I remember going to Port-Royale with visitors and seeing Wayne and Alan in their various character roles. Listening to them made it easy to be a proud Acadien. Know that you are in my thoughts and I hope that the fond memories you have will ease these difficult times.

Since 1983, I’ve been leading tours in Atlantic Canada for a number of organizations. The one constant through those years was Wayne, with his sensitive, heartfelt and passionate interpretation of the region’s history. Hearing him recount the lives of his ancestors gave them each a fully-formed history as he outlined the story he knew literally like the back of his hand. His presence will truly be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Wayne, as part of the broader NSTourism family, escorting tour operators to Port Royal Habitation to “meet Samuel de Champlain” and learn about the experience of our early French settlers to NS. He was authentic, knowledgeable and gracious to all who visited. It was obvious that he truly enjoyed sharing this history and his family were a part of it all.
I was very saddened to read of his passing. My sincere condolences to his family. We were all very fortunate to have known him.
