Our sympathies to Jane and family. We did not know Thelma but wish that we had met her. Her life showed independence, joy and strength of character. She certainly will be missed by family and many community friends.

My thoughts go out to you, Jane and Christine, at this difficult time. I met your mum when I was about 10 and enjoyed her spirit and kindness. I wish I had the chance to know her after those early years. You are both a credit to her, which is a true legacy.
Warmest regards,
Elizabeth

MEMORIES of my Sister in law Thelma.
Thelma was the sister of my first husband Gerald (Gerry) who sadly died of a brain tumour 35 years ago. When I first met Gerry, Thelma and her husband Gerald were about to emigrate to Canada for a new life and so we did not get to know each other properly until many years later, only through letters and photographs. But Thelma did eventually manage to come and visit us in England, and we both spent many hours going from one place to another looking for "treasures" for her to take back to Canada. It was a giggle all the way and Gerry was thankful he had to still go to work!! That is how she got me started buying my own treasures. Sadly, that was the last time she and Gerry were able to meet up but I got to know that his childhood nickname for her was "Thelly" not that Thelma was impressed!
After Gerry died, I was able to take our daughter out to see Thelma and Roland in their wonderful log cabin and that is a wonderful experience that I shall never forget - they took us everywhere with great enthusiasm.
Four years on when I met and married my second husband Peter, we were lucky enough to be able to come to Nova Scotia on a few occasions to meet Thelma in yet another wonderful home - the old Farm House at Lakeville. The treasures had grown out of proportion and it was wonderful to see all her collections and the knowledge she had about them all. I have some wonderful photos of that place and still show them off to my friends. Lots of happy memories.
The last time Thelma came to England to visit us in Lincolnshire, would be the last time but we so enjoyed going to all the Antique Fairs and all the Antique shops and coming home and laying them all out on the bed and admiring them, and wondering how on earth they were all going to get into her suitcase!
One last thing I shall always remember is when Jane invited me out to go to Texas and join Thelma for her 80th birthday - what a wonderful week that was.
As Christine said, Thelma loved India, the country in which she was born and had excellent memories of the wonderful times she and Gerry had there as children.
Thelma was extremely knowledgeable, and very seldom could you debate a subject that she did not know about. Thelma was someone who knew her own mind, was prepared to tackle anything , get a little feisty if she had to, and get on with life in her very special way. She will be remembered well and be sadly missed by everyone.
Sister in law Frances Yeo nee Smart.

I remember Thelma from very early days on Vaughan Avenue as a vivacious, energetic Mom, with a wonderful British accent. Twice an immigrant, she brought a wonderful family to Canada and lived a long and productive life. My deepest sympathy for your loss, Barbara Jones

I am sorry to learn of Thelma's death. She was an engaged, outspoken and interesting member of the community and the very first new person I met when I returned to live in the Annapolis Valley. My sincere sympathy to Thelma's family and friends.

To the family of Mrs. Bliss,
We were newly married when we were driving on a stormy winter night when we got stuck on the road right by Mr. and Mrs. Bliss's house. They made us feel so welcome. We would go occasionally to visit. We always enjoyed going there to visit. We would exchange christmas cards every year until the one got returned to us.Praying for your families for strength and comfort.

I remember well meeting Thelma at Belliveau Cove market so many years ago when we were drawing attention to our Stop the Quarry group against the Bilcon quarry on Digby Neck. She was welcoming, gracious and friendly. I've always remembered her even though I only met her once. Nora
