Hello. Sorry I am late but just saw this. I left Digby at a young age and do not have a lot of history there but I remember Geordie fondly. He was a school buddy of mine but and it is probably 55 or more years since I saw or spoke with Geordie. Rest In Peace old friend.

Such a wonderful tribute to Uncle Gordon. My favourite memories of him are sitting in his den on the floor. He would let us pick any sports card In his collection. We were asked to hide the card from him revealing only a small corner with no seemingly revealing details. He would then like magic recite the stats of the baseball player on the card. He could do this over and over. It was amazing. His love of sports , golf and his dogs were his passions in life. He would carry his beagle Jonathan up the stairs to bed every night. So glad so many puppies had the opportunity to have a home with him and Nanny Shue. Rest In Peace Gordon, I hope you and Aunt Sharron are together with your past puppies. You left a mark and fond memories on many of your nieces and nephews.

Thank you for writing such a beautiful and thoughtful obituary. It really captures the essence of Gordie, who he was as a person and his rewarding and impactful life.
I too was shocked and saddened to learn of Gordie’s passing. We were friends going back to our early childhoods, owing to a great and long friendship between our parents. I have many fond memories of visits at our house in Weymouth North or at the Handspikers in Digby, either at special times of the year or just dropping by and then later get togethers during and after our university days.
We did share interests in sports, books and public affairs and Gordie always brought keen insights and knowledge to the discussions. There were always lots of laughs because Gordie had such a great sense of humour. Gordie also had a keen sense of curiosity, about people, events and history.
The simple truth is that Gordie was a good person. As were his parents, Hazel and Roscoe, who were always so kind to me and to our family. It’s not easy being a good person through all of the ups and downs of our lives. Gordie was a role model in that respect.
I’m sorry we didn’t spend more time together in our later years. This happens when one moves away and the contact gets eroded over time. But on those occasions when we did get together, in the blink of an eye, it was always like old times. We did hang out last September during a NS visit and then corresponded after that, but he hadn’t mentioned the illness. So, a big thank you to Ross Stanley, his close friend, for being there when he needed the help and the company. Gordie, we’ll see you again down the road.

It was with shock and sadness that I heard of Gordie's passing; but this is a beautiful life story to have read. As a road adjuster with Canadian General Insurance, I knew Gordie and his parents while serving their clients from the early 80's until 2005. It was natural to then become a personal friend of Sharron once she came into their lives. There were many pleasurable visits in their Clementsport home through those years because it was a happy and welcome place to be. And no one needed an invitation. Gordie was always happy to be enjoying simple things, good and easy conversations, wonderful meals Sharron made for him, and surrounded by her love and that of his faithful dogs. Both he and Sharron were quiet supporters as my husband fought and then lost his battle with cancer several years before Sharron bravely fought her battle. We had many good talks through those years. I'll always remember how well the Handspikers were spoken of by their faithful clients, and how every client was viewed as a daily personal commitment by the Handspikers to give these clients nothing but the best service. That was rare to see. The insurance community also knew that this was an agency where it was a pleasure to do business. Gordie and his dad were both true gentlemen and it was a pleasure to have been a small part of their lives. May Gordie and Sharron now rest in peace together as we remember them and their love for each other. Sally Walsh
