Our sincere condolences to Melvin's family and friends. Melvin was truly one of a kind and the last of our Bear River characters. Whenever Bruce came home from a gab session with Melvin he would come in the door holding his sides from laughing! We will miss seeing you, in front of the clinic, Melvin, with your "wheelchair" that you used as a cart and pointing your finger at us, in those white gloves, when we drove by. We hope you are having a card game, right now, with Alvin Riley and the gang.

Melvin was my very entertaining neighbor for the last 5 years. He cleaned the snow off my car all winter and kept the outside of my windows clean all summer. He would often pop up outside my window for a chat while he was doing many hours of yardwork.
He had a kind heart and a quirky sense of humor, and I will miss him very much.

Melvin was a great friend and co-worker during the years we worked together for Canex at Cornwallis.
He and Carl Wamboldt were in charge of keeping the pop machines filled .. Melvin never travelled
far from Bear River but he did like to drive Nova Scotia roads on the week end and the two of them
always had great stories and laughs to share. Melvin will be missed and remembered.

We were saddened to hear of Melvin’s passing. We did not realize that he was not well so it came as a shock. Whenever we were visiting Bob and Gee next door he had stories to tell us as soon as we got out of the car. Sometimes it was hard to get away! We always left laughing. Ross has fond and humorous memories of him working at Cornwallis. He was a good man and will be greatly missed. Condolences to the family. Ross and Susan Potter

Melvin was a true friend to me. We spent many hours together. . I would go down to his house for coffee 3 or 4 nights a week and catch up on the news. I would say are you sure and his answer was Keep You Eyes & Ears Open. RIP, Melvin. Your friend , Eric

A very fine man was Melvin. He always treated me, a come-from-away, with care and respect. He helped me with mowing and always had some gossip or a joke for everyone. Bear River will surely miss Melvin.

Sincere sympathy to the family of Melvin, had so many great memories of him when I grew up on the River Road, he had the best comic book collection and would let us borrow them a large bunch at a time. Rest in peace

My deepest condolences to Melvin's family - Melvin was a true Bear River character, with such quick wit and humour. He could imitate just about anyone and his visits to the Post Office always made me smile. Rest easy, Melvin - you will truly be missed.
