I send sincere condolences to Mel and Mona's four children on the passing of their dad. I had a happy conversation with him at the service for Mona in that I had played for his daughter's wedding many years ago. Then, too, I would meet him at the TGIF functions, when he would be most congenial. I am happy too that he and Mona found solace in living in Bridgetown in their latter years..

Mel and Mona were lifetime friends with our parents Sid and Doris MacNaughton for many years during their RCMP careers and into retirement. They shared so many great times filled with playing cards, laughter and sharing stories of their children growing. Mel and Mona were true and loyal friends to so many around them. Our deepest condolences on the deep loss of your parents.

To the Bateman family, our sincere condolences in the loss of your father. It was wonderful to read about his life, truly an honourable man who lived an exemplary life. It was so beautifully written! In reading this Paul, I can see your Dad’s character in you and it is reflected in the way you have carried out your career. Blessings on each one of you as you gather memories of your Dad. Sincerely, Joanne and Jake Jacobson (Courtenay, BC)

Dear Nancy and Family, I am so, so saddened to hear about your Dad. A mighty, fine, devoted man. We were all devastated when Mona died. It broke my heart. And now, we all realize that his heart and his spirit were broken when he lost her. Love will go on eternally. Tears are running down my cheeks as I write this… your parents were always so kind and thoughtful and I will cherish those memories between our families. Love to you all.

Over many, many years I was casually acquainted with Mel as our work paths occasionally crossed. In later life upon retirement to Bridgetown Mel continued to serve his community as a Justice of the Peace. As I passed through Bridgetown once in a while I could find him in his workshop and have a brief chat about mutual friends or our duties as JP's. He was a truly good person and will not be forgotten.

I was so saddened to read of Mel’s passing. My sincere condolences to his family. I only really got to know Mel when I moved across the street from him a couple of years ago. I enjoyed our chats and the visits I made to his and Mona’s beautiful home. It was always fun to watch him walk Sara - or shall we say, Sara walking Mel. He loved that little dog! I know his heart was broken when Mona died, so now he is at peace.

I am in shock at the passing of Mel…I just saw the news today. Such a wonderful friend….both Mel and Mona, were part of a dinner group, myself and my husband Laurie Montgomery, a part of…which brought all of us much joy. What wonderful memories I have and shall cherish my time with them forever.
My husband Jim got to know them in 2019…and was so happy they were his friends as well..
We shall miss Mel very much … what a wonderful husband to Mona, father to his family and a friend to so many.

I didn’t know Mel or Mona really well but my parents did! A memory comes to mind of Christmas shopping! My dad, (John Merry), calls me up Christmas Eve morning and said we’ve got to get something for your mom for Christmas so let’s go down to Mel’s shop! We bought a beautiful Royal Daulton figurine all in purple!
Of course I was left to wrap it, and sneak it into the house!
Today that lovely figurine sits on my China closet and the memories of that day comes flooding back!
My condolences in the passing of Mel and of course Mona a short while ago! Such very lovely people!
