My heart ached to hear Rita had passed , and I wanted to send my condolences to her family and all of you whose lives she touched. Our paths crossed when I knocked on her door with my sister, looking for a cemetary , we were searching for my grandmother's roots. She wanted to go with us to show us, and headed toward the car. Despite my hesitation, she said it would be an adventure for her and heard a sense of fun. For me, it was the beginning of a long treasured friendship. We ended up writing to each other over time, sharing our stories , two women in our later years... our day to day , the tablecloth she loved, my dahlias, her black eyed susans, her family who she loved to see, her grandchildren's visits, and of Theresa. Whenever I left , it always felt bittersweet, as it does now. I will remember her enjoying card games with her friends, of loving the beauty of church, and for me, the simple pleasure of getting one more letter from Rita.. Thank you, friend.

Although I was young, I do remember a couple of visits with you. And the parts that stand out was how warm and welcoming your home and you were. I remember the smell of baked goods in your kitchen and just a light peaceful feeling sitting in there. I wish I got to see you as an adult and had conversations about your sister Anna (grandma)...but time flies and you don't think about running out of it. Rita was like a mother to me for many, many years. She was a very caring, loving and generous person. Rita would give you her heart if she could. She had a great love of family and only wanted her family to be happy. I will always remember Rita with love and her laugh which usually ended in a snort which would make her laugh all the more. She taught me many of life’s lessons and for that I am forever grateful for. With love, Cindy
