Obituary of Milton MacKenzie Hudson
Milton MacKenzie Hudson
September 3, 1932 to July 29, 2023
Milton (Mick) MacKenzie Hudson, age 90, of Port Wade, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 29, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 3, 1932 in Victoria Beach to Melbourne and Nellie (Halliday) Hudson. Mick was the 17th of 19 children, 13 of which survived past infancy (Arthur, Edward, Rose, Melbourne, Frederick, Kenneth, Norma, Nellie, Wallace, Myrtle, Milton, Max and Gordon). He was the last of this large family of siblings.
Mick loved the sea, making his living through various roles in the industry. He fished lobster, went on scallop boats, often for days at a time, fished trawl and dug lots of clams. Many of his years were spent with Casey’s Fisheries in Victoria Beach; he could sharpen a knife like no one else. Mick mowed lawns in the neighbourhood (as many as 22 at one time) and helped out the “old folks” with small jobs well into his eighties. There are many carved decoys in our family that he so lovingly worked from a single piece of wood. He built miniature lighthouses and replica fishing boats as well. Most of his children and grandchildren have a favourite wooden spoon he had carved, which get used with love and memories on a regular basis. His passions included hunting, fishing and reading a good western or a true local history story. His property was always perfect, painting before it was needed, mowing and trimming his lawn, taking pride in its curb appeal. He looked forward to spring and planting annuals and tending his rose bushes. Mick loved animals and had a very kind and generous heart. He always looked forward to visits from his dog friends, especially when he no longer had his own.
His biggest passion really was his family, especially his visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mick is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Taylor) to whom he was married to for 65 years. His children, Sandra Mansfield, Charlotte Janes (Wayne), Darrell and Chris (Lois). Grandchildren, Nick Mansfield, Ryan Mansfield, Michelle Turner, Courtney MacIntosh, Ethan Janes, Jillian Manning and Bronson Sarty. Great grandchildren, Clark, Abby, Jordyn, Bennett, Brantley, Gabe and Wyatt; along with many, many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Bruce.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 4th at 2:00 pm in the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Interment will be in the Port Wade Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Port Wade Cemetery or charity of one’s choice.
