We knew Peter mostly through the Clementsport Royal Canadian Legion. He was always the ultimate gentleman. Whenever our grandson who was an Air Cadet at Greenwood was attending the Legion dinners with us, Peter would encourage him especially when the possibility arose for his attending Kingston Royal Military College. Peter was at the West Kings High School graduation when the announcement came for his acceptance and bursary for the four years of education at RMC. It was a good decision. Our grandson is a recent graduate.
Rest in Peace, Peter.

To the Townsend Family.
I was very saddened to learn of Peter's passing. I knew Peter through the Navy, we both joined around the same period in our lives. Never sailed with Peter but our careers often crossed paths. My fondest memories of Peter when we worked at the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Atlantic) in Shearwater. I was the Executive Officer at RCSU(A) and Peter was the Nova Scotia Detachment Commander. Later when Peter retired, I was honoured to have taken over as the Detachment Commander from Peter. We collaborated in Cadet Programs and Navy League together. Peter was a professional in every sense as a Naval Officer, he loved his time in the navy and it showed. Above all else everything he did he was the ultimate gentleman. Peter you will be missed. May you Rest in Peace."Fair Winds and Following Seas".

Dear Sarah, Craig and Family,
I was so saddened to learn of Peter's passing. He was always a good friend and a great boss. It was a delight to work for and with Peter during my time at the RCN Seamanship Division where Peter was Officer Commanding, He never got upset nor did he sweat the small stuff. I remember Peter telling me that I was to lead the RCN 100 person Guard and Display team in the Royal NS International Tattoo. Peter was an invaluable mentor and support during the 2 months of preparations. On leaving the Seamanship Division, Peter again provided tremendous guidance and support as I began my next adventure in the RCN. I always enjoyed Peter's company and loved meeting up whenever the opportunity presented itself. His work with the Navy League of Canada and support to the youth will always be remembered. Peter will be missed! Plse know my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Our sincere sympathy to Sarah and Craig at this difficult time. We have fond memories of your Dad and Mom in our sorority group. We have had several visits to the farm where we were able to view the orchard and wonderful gardens. In the fall your Mom always brought our group beautiful big red apples. Our prayers are with you.

I remember Peter as a cousin but as a caring, interesting individual. As I pondered a military career and sought advice on attending the Royal Military College, it was Peter whose council I sought. It was always nice to share stories & experiences when we met when I was back home on leave. I recall his comments to me that some of his most rewarding time in uniform was later in his career when he had the privilege to work in the cadet program. After decades of full-time service, I followed the same route and have cherished the opportunity to work with youth & be a mentor & hopefully a role model in the cadet organization. During their cadet years, our son & daughter relied on Peter's wisdom & guidance and they have now been in uniform for over 21 years of full-time service themselves. Peter & Ruth made a wonderful, caring and hard-working couple together. May you enjoy being reunited in heaven! Bonnie and I send our condolences to all Peter's family at this loss. May the happy memories be cherished as the grief passes.

I was so sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. He was quite the lad with a career to match. It was Canada’s gain when he came to join the RCN and then immersed himself in his community. He was a dedicated Freemason and made a noteworthy contribution to many different branches of Freemasonry, to the Navy and to his family and friends. Well done true and faithful servant. You have earned your rest.

After a friendship that has lasted more than 60 years, there are too many memories to write down. We have shared meals and overnight stays when Tattoo was on, at camp and during hospital visits. We remember the years at Cornwallis , our families growing up, graduations , weddings and birthdays. We recall apple or pear or strawberry picking, playing Skip Bo , presents at any time and post cards from all over the world . Peter and his family have been very dear to all of us and we are grateful for having known him for so long. Wendell & June and family
