Obituary of Reginald Carl Goldsmith

The family of the late Reginald Carl Goldsmith wish to announce his passing on Friday, March 1 at Valley Hospice in Kentville. Reg was born in Middleton to the late Vernon and Louise Goldsmith. He attended schools in both Round Hill and Annapolis Royal and the Nova Scotia Trade School in Halifax. He worked with the Department of Highways in Halifax and was a logging contractor. Reg was a jack of all trades and could repair anything broken, and more than once, would take things apart just to see how they were made. He was happiest while working in the woods with his big boy toys, his latest, a small excavator. It gave him great pleasure when his grandson Ben worked with him, driving the skidder. With help of his father, he built two family homes in Upper Tantallon and Round Hill.

Reg spent four years on the N.S. Marketing Board and Forestry Voluntary Planning Committee, of which he said later was a total waste of time. He was a member of the Annapolis Co. Woodlot Owners Association and a Director of West Nova Silva Ltd.  He was a longtime member of St. George & St. Andrew United Church and served on the Committee of Stewards, the Property Committee and the Men's Club.

Reg is suvived by his wife of 57 years who in his words was "the best cook ever", Sheila (Pernette), as well as daughters Susan Goldsmith Davis (Kristian) of Cobden, Ontario, Karen Olsen (Eric) of Round Hill and Janis Mazerolle (Bob) of Grand Bay, NB. Also, grandchildren Ben and Emily Olsen, Emerson and Garett Davis, step grandchildren Greg and Megan Mazerolle, and step great granddaughters Mia and Kenza Mazerolle. Survived by brother David of Italy Cross, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Allen (Trudy), Ben and sister Sharon Finkenhagen (Al).

Cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life to be held at St. George & St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 1:00 pm.  A private family interment of ashes will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderul doctors, nurses and staff at the Valley Regional Hospital, Valley Hospice and Fidelis House in Kentville.
