Richard was Margaret’s cousin. She remembers fondly when he used to visit them in Clapham, when he was a young student looking for home cooked food. She was happy that she was able to visit him both in Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Duncan and Claire have many happy memories of visiting Richard and Carmen in Canada. We were lucky to visit him in his office to see the ISS space arm material.
With all our love to Carmen and the family.

I first met you both while we enjoyed "Instant Theatre". He was a wonderful host when we met at your house and always had that look of energy and fun when I saw him when I was volunteering at Kings' Theatre. He always put a smile on my face and joy in my heart.
I will miss seeing him and express my deepest sympathies to those who knew and loved him. May your fondest memories continue to put a smile on your faces.

Condolences from Sue and me to Carmelita and family. I met Dick originally through golf at Fort View. Watching Dick play with his unique golf swing was a delight. He would always hit it straight and further than I would expect his swing to accomplish. I also learned that he was like me, a Chelsea fan.Together we would occasionally talk about what was needed to fix Chelsea football. Sue and I also enjoyed the Holt hospitality at their home for Instant Theatre. Dick always added to the event with one of his anecdotes.
Rest in Peace Dick.

Richard Thomas Holt Ph.D
I cannot begin to understand the grief that has fallen on Carmelita and her family, but for me Dick was a very special person, so I share some of this grief. Dick was both a colleague and a friend. We worked together at the National Research Council for close to 30 years where we took on a vast assortment of topics and published about a dozen papers in national and international journals. These included a seminal investigation on the effects of impurities and trace elements in nickel based superalloys, which remains the definite text on the subject more than 30 years later. We jointly set up a subcommittee of the International Standards Organization ISO/TC20/ SC11: Aerospace Materials and Processes, and we organized the first meeting of this group in Ottawa. Dick went on alone to run this subcommittee for several years and he organized one very successful meeting in Beijing China.
Dick was more than a colleague. He became a very good friend and a travelling partner along with our two wives. He was interested in everything around him from nature to geology, history to people, and he loved to chat about the things he’d seen. But I will remember him best as a kind and caring person, and a pretty formidable sportsman. He did well with anything involving a ball, whether a golf ball, a tennis ball or a soccer ball. He played and watched just about every sport imaginable. The world has lost a wonderful person and Monica and I offer our sincere condolences to Carmelita, Derek, Richard, Jen, James and their families.
Dr. Bill Wallace,
Former Director General.

My condolences to Richard, Derek and the rest of Dick’s family (whom I have not met.). I worked with Dick at NRC Structures Lab starting in 1973 when I started there. We lived a few blocks away in Queenswood Heights, and carpooled to work together. Dick and I had many interesting conversations as we travelled to and from work.

Dear Carmelita,
We are sorry that Covid and circumstances have meant that we have not been
together recently.
We used to see each other at the Seniors' golf events or Order of Good Cheer .
and other occasions. Dick had so many interests and was also a great listener.
He was a good neighbour and friend.
June thinks of Dick at this time of the year when Quinces are ripe!
Our deepest sympathy to you and yours.

Carmen, I am so sorry to learn of Dick's passing. While our paths crossed for such a short time I am so honoured to have met and shared time with you two. And glad to learn that your journey took you to the home land of several of my ancestors (Annapolis).
I was involved in Regional Government in Ottawa. Dick was more than willing to share good advice about his community and about the Ottawa-Carleton region as a whole, advice I always took. Dick knew his stuff!
But mostly I enjoyed our dinners together and the beautiful grounds around your house in Gloucester.

I worked with Dick at NRC in the nineties and up to his retirement. He was a welcoming and hospitable mentor to me and I always felt I could ask Dick anything if I had a question or problem. Sympathies to the family and rest well Dick.

I had known of Dick's illness but I was so pleased that he continued to attend men's sectionals for A Royal Consort choir, letting me know when he had treatments scheduled. He was a valued bass whose disposition was ever so delightful. I came to know Carmelita as well, a happy partner for Dick. I send consolation to all of Dick's family members at this difficult time.
