How sorry I was to hear of Gary's passing. Gary was my mom's brother and I didn't know him well but what I did know was that he was a kind and gentle soul. It warmed my heart to read all the posts on his son's facebook and see just how loved he was. I only wish I had gotten to know him better. God bless you all and fill your hearts with many happy memories that will last you a life time.

When I was just a boy - maybe seven or eight years old - a convoy of dump trucks hauled load after load of gravel from a pit a short distance from my house. I often stood where the grass of our front lawn mixed with pebbles from the road waving my arm up and down in hopes that one of the drivers might take notice. Some would drive right on by while others would wave or blow the truck's horn. One day I shall always remember, a fully loaded, bright red, monster-of-a-truck stopped. The passenger door swung open and the driver gestured for me to get in. As I struggled to climb up into the beast, an outstretched hand grabbed mine and helped me find a perch. For the next few hours, we traveled back and forth between the gravel pit and the road grader. All too soon, it was time to call it a day. When I had climbed out of the truck and was just about to run off to tell my friends of my adventures, the driver gave me a wave and shouted, "Say hi to your mom for me." Only then did I realize that I had spent the hours riding shotgun with my uncle Gary. Thank you.
