Obituary of Bradley Boyd

Boyd, Bradley G. - Passed away peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary, on February 13, 2014, at the age of 78. He was the sole survivor of his immediate family. He was born March 10, 1935, in Philadelphia, USA, where he resided until the age of seven years, when his father passed away. Then moved to Toronto, where he grew up, and attended Lakefield College "The Grove School" for two years. He joined the Navy in 1953, retiring in 1982. During that time he served on many ships, and bases. He also coached competitive swimming with the Shearwater Bluefin's, Dartmouth Crusaders, and the Cornwallis Stingrays. Upon his retirement from the Armed Forces, he was employed with Canadian Marconi, Coldwell Enterprises and as a Commissionaire for two years. He was also very involved with the Knights of Columbus for 25 years, becoming the Grand Knight of West Chezzetcook Council # 9093, and the Digby Council #5296, and the District Deputy of Zone 6 for 3 years. He was a 4th Degree Knight and involved in all of their activities as well. When he moved to the valley in 1997, he became involved with the local Legion Branch # 21, working his way up through executive Offices to become President for 3 years. He also served as the Sgt at Arms of Branch and Zone 9 for three years. During this time he also did volunteer work at the RCMP Cornwallis office as their 1st manager, and continued on as an Office rep until His demise. In his later years, he enjoyed travelling to his trailer in Florida with his partner, spending time in the park, at the beach, and visiting the surrounding area. He is survived by his loving companion Marilyn Halliday; four children, Daniel, Carol French (Vince), Dareena Mac Donnell, and Bradley (Hidee); four grandsons, Daniel, James, Matthew and Jason; four stepchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Marguerite and Kenneth; sister, Beverly, his Irish wife, Celine; son, James Bradley; granddaughter Kaleigh French. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal. A celebration of Bradley's life will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 2:00pm, in the Annapolis Royal Legion Hall, Branch 21, with Rev. Canon Ken Vaughan officiating .
