WARD, John Vivien - 88, of Bridgetown East, passed away on August 4, 2014 at Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown. Born in Sudbury (Suffolk), England on November 19, 1925, he was the oldest son of the late Violet Annie (Brimblecombe) and Cecil Mayhew Ward. In 1926, he immigrated to Canada with his parents and sister Audrey. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Edith Maureen (Bent); and by four siblings - Rosalind (Vance) Jackson of Clarence, Edgar (Beverley) Ward of Bridgetown East, Robert (Shirley) Ward of Wilmot and David (Miriam) Ward of Bridgetown East. He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Tom) Rice of Bridgetown, his son Kevin (Anna-Maria) of Coldbrook, and six grandchildren - Christopher, Jason and Sonya Rice; and Gillian, Emma and Olivia Ward. He is also survived by six siblings - Audrey Jarret of Aurora, Ontario, Daphne Rudolph of Bridgetown East, Shirley Mathieson of Ottawa, Jeanette (Lane) Myers of Greenwood, Barbara (Peter) Hosking of Dartmouth and Diana (Russell) Bowlby of Greenwood. He was employed by the Nova Scotia Department of Highways and Irving Oil; and, for 35 years, he owned and operated John Ward Excavating. He enjoyed his garden, camping, curling, dancing and boating. He will be remembered by friends and family for his hard work, dedication, quick wit and down-to-earth practical wisdom. Cremation has taken place. Funeral will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 2 pm at St. James Anglican Church in Bridgetown with Reverend Paul Jennings officiating and assisted by Father Fred Hinxman. Reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Bridgetown.
