Obituary of Wallace James Greene

Greene, Wallace “Wally” James – Bear River, passed away peacefully in Annapolis Health Centre, on April 30, 2015. Born on September 11, 1932, in Mount Rose, Annapolis County. He was a son of the late Hartley and Edith (Parker) Greene. Wallace started work at a young age by making staves at the International Cooperage and continued his employment in paving, delivering for Clayton Harris, Bear River Home Furnishing and Digby Home Furnishings. He was a hard worker. He continued his education at NSIT, Halifax and began his career as an apprentice lineman in Bear River and progressed through 1st class and leading lineman positions. He was appointed District Supervisor, Bear River in March 1971. From T&D Operations in 1983, he became Supervisor of System Operations, Bear River Hydro System, a position he held until his retirement in 1991, after nearly 30 years of dedicated service. Wallace was an outdoor enthusiast…..he enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing and snowmobiling. He loved to sketch and draw and work with wood…..a maker of knives, canoes and paddles. His work can be seen at the Bear River Fire Department, and Milford House, Milford. He was a member of the Bear River Volunteer Fire Department and the Trapper’s Association of Nova Scotia. His presence will be missed in the village as he made his daily trips out there to chat with the locals and many friends he made. He will be greatly missed by his pal Dave Parker. He leaves to mourn his wife of 62 years Alice (Tibbitts); daughters Brenda (Gabriel) Hamilton, Toronto; Valerie (Greg) Sweeney, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Nigel Hamilton, Dartmouth; Adam Sweeney, Victoria B.C. and Amanda Peck, Cornwallis; great- grandchildren, Rylee, Noah and Brooke Hamilton, Dartmouth. Also survived by brother, Burton, Bear River and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Terry; brother, Richard and a sister at birth. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal. There will be no funeral service at his request. A private committal service for Wallace and son Terry will be held at a later date, with Reverend Earl Waterman officiating.
