Sadden to hear of the passing of Chick. My sincere condolences to all family members. First met Chick in high school along with brother, Carl. We all loved playing sports! Always looked forward to any meeting we had during the few times over the years, when I visited Annapolis Royal. Fond memories of seeing Chick for the last time at our ARRA reunion in 2009. Always a smile & a good sense of humour. Never to be forgotten. R.I.P. my friend, Barrie Melanson, Calgary, AB.

Sherry and Brock I am so sorry for your loss. Chick is and always will be known as a fantastic person! I had the pleasure of knowing him when I was a student and when I became a teacher he was my college! I played tennis with Chick and was impressed with his skills. My husband Jeremy enjoyed playing golf with Chick at Annapolis Golf Course when we came summers.after we moved to Florida. Chick has influenced many lives for the better and he truly will be remembered as a teacher who cared, tried, and made a difference, I feel sadness knowing I will miss seeing him in June when I return home for a visit! "Keep the Faith Sherry and Brock!" Chick will always be remembered for all he did and the effort he put to support students! You are greatly missed Chick but never forgotten!!!

Sherry, Brock, Kristen, and Sam,
I am so very sorry for your untimely loss of a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Over the past week I have had a number of conversations with people who either knew Chick or who have expressed their sympathies for Brock and his family. The fact that the crowd spilled outdoors for those attending the memorial gathering last Sunday speaks to the love of many friends, family members, AWEC and Acadia students, and the larger Annapolis Royal area community. If there is any solace to be found in this difficult time, it would seem to be that Chick clearly loved his work with AWEC and was admiring Sherry's artwork at the time of his outing with AWEC students.
My heartfelt condolences to each of you on the loss of someone so dear to you.

Hello, I am so sorry to hear of Chick's passing. I didnt know him well but have very fond memories of him. When I was in university at Dalhousie in 1983 and 84, I used to sometimes catch a ride to Halifax from Clementsport with Chick in his VW Beetle. He was kind and interesting and encouraging to a sometimes shy and awkward 19 year old. I developed a life long love of Volkswagon because of him.
I am sorry for the loss to his family. I am sure he will be missed and live on in memories cherished by you.
All the best during this difficult time. My mother Shirley and I extend our best wishes.
Sincerely,

Today, I asked my grade nine students to think about success and what it looks like to them. Then, I told them about a friend and mentor who had passed away suddenly last week. I told them all about Chick and how he was with people, what a great member of the community he was and how he always had a smile on his face. In my mind, Chick was the epitome of success because he lived with a love for life and he treated every person he encountered with respect and kindness. I will miss running in to Chick in the summers. He was truly one of the most exceptional human beings I have ever had the pleasure of sharing a laugh with. Sherry, Brock and family, my deepest condolences.

Dear Sherry, Brock and family: like so many others we were shocked to learn of Chick's passing. He was such a special guy and though we've been in Wainwright for 21 years, he always was that same genial, warm man with the sparkle in his eye and always said hello on our annual trips "home". All those years ago in Deep Brook those Caldwell boys were well thought of and this continues today as all of these tributes show for Chick- all that he became and achieved. He will be missed by so many. Love and peace to the family. Susan and Ross Potter

Sheri: We are so sorry to hear of Chick's passing. I recall the positive impression that Chick made on me when I first met him. That grew into a strong bound during the times that we spent in Cornwallis playing various sports. We had periodic contact over those ensuing years during which I was always impressed on his strong character. In later years, I always would hear how well he was doing and the impact that he had on those around him. He shall be sorely missed and that is borne out in the tributes that we have read. He left an example on how we should live our lives. God bless.

Chick was a great friend at school. He popped into my class every day without fail. We'd always have a great chat. If I mentioned that I was tired, ten minutes later there he'd be with a cup of tea for me. He took great interest in my kids and liked to give Rhys tennis tips. Once when I was taking the band on a trip, we were all gathered at the school entrance trying to shuffle our way out. Chick was right there peppering me with questions: "Do you have enough chaperones? Do you have permission forms?" I must have given him a bit of a frazzled look because the next day he delivered a card. It was a beautiful hand painted card with a yellow bird on the front. Inside he wrote "I'm sorry for opening my big beak yesterday. I should have known you would have had it all organized!" We both laughed and I kept that card on my bulletin board. He was always looking out for us!

I had the pleasure of supporting Chick in his NSCC journey as one of his instructors. Chick was a great guy, one of my favourite students ever! He called me the "queen of the segue", and would try to see how far he (and others, encouraged by him!) could take me off track in a class then see how long it would take me to get back to the topic. He helped me to learn not to take myself so seriously -- a wonderful lesson for someone at the start of her teaching career - and brought fun and energy to the class, a pattern that continued through his career in education.
Thank you for all the joy you brought Chick. You will be sorely missed.

Our hearts are heavy here on earth, but Chick's incredible legacy will live on for many years to come. Today, we shared fond memories of all the precious moments that Chick embraced because he LOVED life and wanted to make a positive impact with everyone he knew and met in passing. His love for being a genuine, caring individual is an inspiration to us all. May the glory be where he awaits the reunion with all those who believe in salvation and eternal life with our Lord! I will sure miss your morning greetings, but will pass on the same to others now as a way to remember you, Chick - Prayers of love and peace be with all of his family and friends.
