Ellis, Alvin Judson – 96, of Victoria Beach, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Born in Parker’s Cove, Annapolis County, he was the second eldest of ten children of the late Howard and Minnie (Weir) Ellis. The family was raised in Victoria Beach where he lived throughout his life. In 1941 he enlisted in the army and was trained as an engineer. He served in 3rd Canadian Engineers and Mechanics Platoon A. From England, he was involved in D Day 3 and the liberation of Holland. He was in Germany at the war’s end from where he returned to Canada on January 1, 1946, and promptly married the love of his life, Ada, on January 25, 1946. Their love story was to last 66 years until her death. He resumed his life as a lobster fisherman until his retirement, his advice to younger fishermen always being “You have to think like a lobster”. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, he was also dedicated to the work of the Victoria Beach United Baptist Church, and a member of Port Royal Branch 21 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Alvin will be greatly missed by daughter, Vera Faye (Andy) Smith, Hilden; grandsons, Duncan (Amy Cleveland), Wolfville, and Darren, Los Angeles, California; sisters, Ulla Hudson, Port Wade; June Story, Edmonton; Oriole (Robert) Titus, Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; loving wife, Ada; three brothers, Leland, Albert, Gordon and three sisters, Marie, Irene, Velda. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 pm, Monday, July 18, 2016, at Victoria Beach United Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held, following visitation, at 2pm, Rev. Dr, Randolph Legassie officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Peace Cemetery, Victoria Beach. Reception following in Church Hall. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Victoria Beach United Baptist Church. Heartfelt thanks to Dad’s extended family, and support, Marie and Tom Hudson, Nikki Dorey, Ann Marie and Hughie Clarke, who made it possible for him to remain in the home he loved.
