I'm very sorry for your loss, Walter. I would like to have expressed that in person but unfortunately I was away on the day of the funeral. Your mother was a wonderful woman who endured a lot in later life always with a smile on her face.

Sincere condolences to Walter and Sarah and family. Because Dorothy was my mother's (Sarah Woodman) dearest friend, I grew up knowing her and admiring and looking up to her. I've always thought of her as family, the sister my mother never had. She had wonderful stories of her travels, growing up in Glacé Bay, and teaching. She is one of the reasons I became a teacher. Dorothy was caring and compassionate, and was always interested in everything I had to say. I will miss her stories of life in Glacé Bay and her updates through her Christmas cards. Her positive, upbeat outlook even in the face of serious illness was truly inspiring. Rest easy, dear soul. You were a blessing I was fortunate to have in my life. With love, Susan Noiles.

Dear Walter,
On the one hand, we were sorry to learn of the passing of your dear mother, whom we have loved and respected for many years. On the other hand, we are happy that any suffering she was experiencing has ceased and she is now reunited with her dear, Stewart, your Dad. We join you in celebrating a life well lived - a life of concern for others, a life of service to her Lord, and to her family and friends, her students and many more. When we met her many years ago, there was that special connection and bond which seems to exist between fellow Cape Bretoners and Allisonians. We are thankful that we shared time and friendship with one so special. Be assured of our prayers for you and all others deeply affected by her passing.
Every blessing,
Vivian and Don

Dorothy Hannam was an elite educator - beyond any students' expectations! Her classes were always the highlight of the day, utterly fascinating and perfectly presented! I always prayed ALL students could have a teacher of her calibre at least once in their lives! SHE WAS 'THE BEST!'!!!!!
My deepest condolences to her beloved family.

Dorothy Whiting (Hannam) was my high school Latin And ancient history teacher, Quite simply, I adored her and her inspiration contributed to my studying classics at Mount Allison, followed by a MA in classics at McMaster University. Like my secret mentor, I also taught high school, and often thought that even there she was nurturing and guiding me. I was also one of those students who considered her a much beloved friend, and I deeply regret that I did not see her as often as we both would have liked. I also deeply regret that I cannot attend either the visitation or the funeral. I send her family and friends my deepest condolences and very best wishes.

My husband Ken and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Dorothy's son Walter, daughter-in-law Sarah and dear friend Kathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. Dorothy was my mother's (Sarah Kennedy Woodman) dearest friend since childhood. We all loved her like family. She was my sister's namesake. I adored Dorothy and have many fond memories of time spent together. My favorite being Christmas a few years ago spend with both Dorothy and my mother. I loved nothing better than to hear the stories they would tell of growing up together in Glace Bay. The bond they shared was truly like no other friendship I have ever witnessed. So much love.
It will be difficult for my mother to let go.
We wish you strength and many blessings as you grieve. Dorothy will be forever in our hearts...
