Obituary of Roberta Ima Patey

It is with great sorrow that the family announce the passing of Roberta Ima Patey at 101 years of age.
Roberta was born the daughter of Bertha Hanf and Robert Brittain on July 6, 1916 at Forest Glen, Yarmouth Co., Nova Scotia. She passed away October 6, 2017 in Annapolis Royal Nursing Home. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Service and interment will be announced at a later date.
She is survived by one brother, Russell Brittain of New Brunswick and one sister Bertha Dearman (Ron) of British Columbia.
Also survived by her children Alton Gates (Mary), Ray Gates (Inez, deceased), Larry Gates (Joan), and Gordon Mullins (Mary Morrison).
Roberta is also survived by four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great,great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her beloved pet cat Timmy.
Predeceased by husbands Kenneth Gates, Joseph (Rannie) Mullins and Alfred (Scotty) Patey and one grandson, Kenneth Gates. Also brothers Malcolm Brittain, Burpee Brittain, Prescott Brittain, and Edgar (Sammy) Brittain, and sisters Mary Burrill, Eva Brittain, Pauline Stevens, Viva Beals, Viola Gray and Mildred Kinney.
Most recently Roberta was delighted by a visit from her son Alton and grandson Vaughn Gates from British Columbia.
She will be missed by the staff at Annapolis Royal Nursing Home who she considered part of her family and who treated her so well and listened to her many stories of the early/mid part of the last century.Her friends Jo Dondale, Becky Saulnier and Aliene Potter who shared her table at meals will also miss her.
Roberta loved crafts, knitting, sewing, quilting and gardening. She collected cook books and loved to cook. Seafood, especially lobster could put a smile on her face anytime. A wonderful woman. We will all miss her.
