Joan was a ball of fire! As a Unicef volunteer in the valley she always had great ideas for fund raising.
I remember the first time I met met her at a Unicef gathering. She was like a dynamo, small in stature but full of enthusiasm. I loved her deep laugh and the twinkle in her eyes.
So interesting to learn more about her adventures, her family and the close friends that she had. Certainly not surprising that she had so much support from those around her.
She certainly lived life well.

I had the pure pleasure of doing Joans' hair , as It was early in my career, with lots to learn, I did so with Joans patience as she'd say..Now Louise..I want the hair to go this way , and if you don't get it we will try again next time im in. I was honored that she would even choose me to do her hair. She had such great conversation with many as they came into the salon, she'd have her chit chats and leave us all in stitches with her wity humour. WHAT A GREAT LADY!!! I think of her as a MONARK to the town.

Dear Martha, I lived with Aunt Elaine and Uncle David when I first came to Toronto many moons ago (1972) so it was at Windy Reach get togethers that we met ( the last time at an Uncle David birthday I think). The last time I met your mother, was at a Sunday brunch that cousin Ian organized for a group of us at the Distillery District in Toronto. Your mother was absolutely charming. We had a delightful conversation especially about family history. Your mother's manner, her zest for life and her charismatic presence were nothing less than remarkable. My suggestion that she should be the subject of a film or video were (incredulously!) and modestly brushed aside. Of course I would never impose but I was serious! your mother was a very special and remarkable person and I treasure the little bit of time I had with her for the inspiration she gave me. I'm sorry to be so far away from beautiful Annapolis. Thank you for this opportunity to speak with you Martha. fondest wishes to you, Gillian

Dear Martha, Lawrence and family,
we enjoyed getting to know your mom Joan very much, what a lovely lady she was. Every time we dropped of her light multigrain, she had an incredible story to tell. She is reunited with her lovely husband Harry right now. We know it wont be easy for you now, but she will be always with you.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to you both and your families. We know she loved you all very much, we could see it in the way she talked about all of you.
All the best in this difficult time.

We have fond memories of Aunt Joan and joyful times spent with her in Annapolis Royal, whether it was an impromptu visit as we were passing through, or by invitation to a planned meal. She always welcomed us into her home with warmth and love, and we could count on delicious food, lively conversation and plenty of laughter. Her kindness, generosity, wit and zest for life will never be forgotten. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Martha and Laurie and families.
