Obituary of Raymond Outhit Walker
WALKER, Raymond Outhit “Chum”
It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond on April 19, 2019, at the age of 87 in the Halifax Infirmary Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 12, 1931, to the late Harry and Myrtle (Morse) Walker. Ray was born in Carlton Corner near Bridgetown, NS and spent his early years working on the family farm and gravel pit. His uncle, Grant Walker, gave him the nickname “Chum” when he was three years of age, and throughout his life this was how he was known to many in Bridgetown as it suited his friendly, outgoing nature and willingness to do anything for anyone. He began working for the Royal Bank of Canada in 1951, and while working at the bank in Wolfville in 1956 met his future wife, Doris Anderson, who worked at the Post Office across the street. They married in 1958, raised a family in Halifax, and then moved to Bridgetown in 1988 following his retirement. Ray was a hard worker with seemingly endless energy who was never too busy or tired to do things for family and friends. He was predeceased by Doris, his wife of 60 years in November 2018, whom he had lovingly and tirelessly cared for in her last few years. He is survived by a daughter Sharon (John) Bain, son Zane Walker (Judy Lee), grandchildren Laura and Allison Bain, and Christopher and Tristan Walker. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Vera Whitman and Anita McGill, and a brother, John. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 24, at 2 pm in the Bridgetown Baptist Church, Reverend Brian Wallace officiating, with a reception to follow. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, Bridgetown. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Ray may be made to the Bridgetown Baptist Church. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of the Cardiovascular ICU 5.1 of the Halifax Infirmary, especially TAVI Clinic Nurse Keith Warren, for their wonderful care and compassion.
