Randy was our professor at ADC when I was a student. He had such a wonderful sense of humor as he taught us. I always admired this about him. His enthusiasm and love of His Lord never ceased to amaze me; I had only recently been found by the Lord two years before he taught us. It was a real privilege to learn as one of his students.
I am sorry to hear of his death, I know he is with His Lord who he served so faithfully over the years. I did not hear about his death until today and wanted to send love and prayers to his family. May God's loving gentle presence continue to heal you.

Dear Elizabeth:
I have just returned from holiday (June 20) and discovered that Randy had passed away. I was shocked because he and I always teased each other about how fit he was and how unfit I was. I valued Randy and his friendship very highly from the day we first met at Acadia. he was the most genuine person I ever met with a marvelous sense of humour and a very pleasing personality. I always looked forward with eagerness to his Chapel Services at Manning Chapel and ADC. They were always intriguing, original and encouraging. Randy possessed a high degree of the ingredients that Dr. Abner Langley said made a great Minister: compassion, competence and commitment and I often think of conversations we had at ADC and our dreams of the future and how we saw ministry. I learned so much from him in those conversations and came to admire him and treasure his friendship. I will miss him but look forward to seeing him again. You and your family have lost for awhile an amazing man but he has left great memories and we have the promise he believed in that this is just the beginning. I am so sorry I could not be there for the Funeral but be assured of my prayers in this difficult time.
God's blessings upon you and your family.

Sincere sympathy on the passing of your husband, Elizabeth, as well as to the rest of the family. (Only found out today at church.) It is so unexpected for those left behind, but he is at peace with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. What a legacy and Christian witness! He was such a humble, brilliant Christian man, with a strong and far-reaching influence on people both "at home" and "abroad". A life well-lived, for the Lord! Dear Elizabeth,
I could hardly believe the news when I received the notice that Randy had died. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.
With his death being so quick and unexpected, you must feel numbed by the suddenness of his departure. I realize there is nothing I can say that will make your loss easier, but please know I am sending you my love and support.
Randy's life has left a lasting imprint on the hearts of so many people: from the mission field, to Acadia Divinity College, to local churches and communities, not to mention his impact on all your family members. A life well-lived. Now a faith fully realized.
I hope all the great moments you have shared with Randy through the years will bring you some comfort during this time. May all the sweet memories help soothe the loss you feel. I hope too that the love and support from all your family and friends help you through this dark time.
Please know my loving thoughts and prayers are with you.

What can I say? There really are no words. Randy was a treasure and an example to all of us as to how to live a good life, walking with God. I remember having a conversation with him in my kitchen many years ago. I typed the bulletins for Deep Brook Baptist Church. It was summer, I think I was pregnant with my third son, Adam and apologized because we hadn't been to Church much, so busy with the kids. Randy told me that spending time with our family, our children, was doing God's work. I never forgot that. My middle son, Daniel texted me when he heard the news. He said, "I was really young when we moved, so don't remember much, but I always remember Randy's gentle voice". A gentle voice, gone too soon.

Dear Elizabeth and family. Sad to read of Randy's sudden passing. I member that I first met Randy when we were both involved in the Association. During that time the two of you had accepted the call to the mission field. His passion for Christ was a challenge and inspiration to all. From that time I have followed his faith journey. My greatest and most resent memories are from my time a ADC. I had the privilege to take two courses from Randy. While theological courses are necessary it was Randy that instilled in his students the practical side of theology. One got the feeling that some of this practical wise council came from unfortunate experiences of the past that he, like a loving parent wanted us to approach with greater knowledge and/or avoid getting into. More recently I began following the obituaries and noticed that both Randy and you were there to come along side so many in their time of loss and grief and I thanked God for you both. May God bless you and your family through each other and those around you as He blessed so many through his faithful servant Randy, who reflected the love of Jesus to so many in their time of grief and loss.

Elizabeth and family, I am praying for the peace of Christ to be with you during this shocking and grieving time. Randy was a blessing and a good man of God, witnessing and bringing those he knew to love the Saviour he preached. May you find some semblance of solace in the fact that his life was lived sacrificially for his Saviour, and that Randy is now held in the arms of Jesus his Lord. You are in my prayers. Julia

Our hearts are broken at the news of Mr. Legassie's passing. He was an amazing, kind (sometimes comical) soul. Your family has seen us through both happy and sad times; all while teaching us to love and be kind to one another. Please know we grieve with you and pass along our love to you all.

Dearest Elizabeth and Family,
On behalf of the African United Baptist Association Executive, officers, and clergy, I extend our deepest condolences.
We want you to know that we grieve this loss with you. Our prayer is that you receive comfort from the presence of family and friends, from the power of God's Holy Spirit, and from the joy of memories shared with your dear husband and father.
In this time of grief and loss, know that there are many praying for you, thankful that Randy was a man who loved God and served the kingdom faithfully. He did not count his years. Randy made his years count.
"Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” - Revelation 14:13
In sincere sympathy,
Dr. Rhonda Y. Britton

Dear Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Legassie, this shocking news came to us this afternoon. We pray that God of comfort will draw closer to you, the children and grandchildren at this moment of Brother Randy's absent. Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ has said: "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you....Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:18, 27) NIV). His hope and peace are sufficient for us to move on. We are sharing your pain. Moses & Sarah Adekola

Elizabeth. To say I was shocked to see Randy's obituary is an understatement. Even though it has been years since we have seen each other I always enjoyed our conversations and the odd coffee or lunch out when we were both at any gatherings that brought ministers together. i appreciated his listening and encouragement especially when we were dealing with certain vocational issues. His frankness, his humour and his ability to be real in a world and profession that discourages such things in favour of the plastic smile was refreshing and nurturing and made me feel entirely safe. I hope it was reciprocal. I know you have lost a real treasure in this life's partner and I cannot imagine the grief and sorrow you and your children are going through. I am too far away to come in person to pay respects but know my heart is heavy with you. And you will be on my mind come Friday.
