Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Clark, Barbara Elizabeth – 93, Of Upper Granville passed away peacefully December 5, 2014, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born in Needham Heights, Massachusetts in 1921. When she was 11 years old her family moved to Upper Granville, the place she called home for the rest of her life. Barbara married Clinton Jason Clark in 1941, giving birth to three sons during the years that followed. She brought her love of piano with her when she crossed the border to Canada. Later, her mother taught her intricacies of organ music at Centenary United Church in Upper Granville. She was often heard playing the piano in the living room of Grace Haven, her home during the final eight years of her life. Besides her key board talents, she square danced, bowled, and was a member of the Women’s Institute and the United Church Women for years. In quieter moments, Barb could be found quilting, reading a mystery novel or watching Murder She Wrote while sipping on a cup of coffee, a cat cuddled up beside her. A favorite summer pursuit was swimming, especially at Sharon’s cottage. She accompanied her wonderful friend Theresa on a tour of Germany, her trip of a lifetime. Even though she had a myriad of interests, her thoughts centered on her family, friends and her church community. Her husband passed away suddenly in 1971, leaving her widowed for many years. She became a proof reader at Mailman Publishing Company along with her good friend, Alyce Foster. Left to mourn Barb's passing are three sons, Alfred (Anna) of Margaretsville, Richard (Anna) of Upper Granville, and Peter (Shirley) of Bishopville (Glooscap First Nations); granddaughters, Twila Gaudet (Rick) of Mount Denson, Monica Johnson (Stephen) of Ellershouse, Emily Gardner (Fred) of Halifax; grandson, Matthew (Meredith) of Aurora, ON; great grandchildren, Clay and Waverley Gaudet, Isaiah Johnson, Bronwyn and Elliott Clark; many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Clare (Woodbury) Hogan; half-brother, Frank; half-sister, Grace; infant granddaughter, Laura. Barb will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and the depth of her love for her family. Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Monday December 8, 2014, with a funeral service being held 2 pm Tuesday both from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, with Rev. Gordon Delaney officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Bridgetown. Family flowers only. Donations in Barb's memory may be made to Companion Animal Protection Society at PO Box 363, Middleton, N.S.
