Obituary of John Tidd

Tidd, John Floyd, Bridgetown, 78. It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and brother. John passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday August 27, 2011 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Bridgetown, he was a son of the late Floyd and Eileen Tidd. John will forever be remembered by his loving wife of 54 years Annette (Theriault); son, Stephen (Lee), Edmonton, AB; daughters, Linda (Brian), Whiterock, BC, and Yvonne (Cam), St. Albert, AB; his beloved grandchildren, Jordon, Morgan, Colton, Garrett, Jarvis and Eryn; his only sister, Thelma (LeBlanc), Edmonton; brothers, Joseph, Charles (Jean), Bridgetown, Paul, Sudbury, ON, William (Shirley), Lawrencetown, Ozzie (Cathy), Coldbrook. He was predeceased by a daughter, Marilyn; brother George and grandson, Spencer. John served his country as a medic in the Korean War. Upon his return to Canada, he joined the Canadian Guards and in 1955, after a parachute accident John was invalidated out with a severely injured leg. This wasn't however the end of his military career. He spent the next 14 years with the West Nova Scotia Regiment until 1965, when he was released with the rank of Warrant Officer. Still not completely finished with his connection to the Canadian Armed Forces, he then traveled to CFB Cornwallis for the next few years as a civil servant. The next 35 years, John worked as a Financial Advisor which earned him many awards and respect of his peers. His love for the town or Bridgetown led him to serve on the Bridgetown Town Council for 28 years as a councilor and also Deputy Mayor. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion receiving the Meritorous Legion Service Medal. John served as past president and chairman of the Remembrance Day Activities for the past 50 years. John was an avid softball player and was instrumental in starting up minor hockey program in Bridgetown. He was an active member of the Bridgetown lawn Bowling Club, serving as past president and as Director of Lawn Bowls Nova Scotia. In 2010, John was inducted into the Bridgetown Sports Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in softball. Throughout his life, John was known for many for his outgoing personality, humor, and ability to make people laugh at the drop of a hat. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. God Speed JT. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 31, from 2-4 pm, followed by a Legion Service at 6:30 pm held in the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, September 1st, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Bridgetown with a reception to follow at the Bridgetown Legion, Branch 33.
