Obituary of George 'Darrell' Karnes
George "Darrell" Karnes - 73 of Bridgetown N.S. passed away peacefully on the 1st of February 2019, in the comfort of his home with family by his side.
Born and raised in Bridgetown, he was the son of the late Charles Merwyn and Mercy Ann Karnes. Darrell was a proud member of the RCMP for over 35 years, dedicating the majority of his career to the Equitation Branch and the RCMP Musical Ride in Ottawa. Retirement brought him back home to Bridgetown.
Darrell was married for 48 years to the love of his life and best friend Karen (Taylor). He was a devoted father to his two daughters who he affectionately called "his girls". Nothing made him happier than spending time, creating memories and enjoying adventures with his six grandchildren.
This charismatic, loving, caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be greatly missed by his wife Karen, his daughters, Dana (John) and Shauna (Brian), his grandchildren William, Owen, Dominic, Eva, Daniel and Emery. Darrell is also survived by his only sister Donna Marie Smith and her children (Bradley, Kara) of Burlington ON. His loss will be felt by all his extended family and close friends.
A funeral service will be held 2pm Thursday February 7, 2019, from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, with Marilyn Kaulbach officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
A special thank you to his oncology team, Dr. Davis, Dr. Morzycki and Kara Bursey (RN). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, Mid Valley Palliative Care, VON or charity of choice.
